New Artist: Gianfranco Gallucci

Gianfranco Gallucci (b.1981) is an independent documentary photographer currently based between Venice and Portugal. He started approaching photography as a self-taught photographer in 2004, after independent studies on cinematography, while majoring in architecture at university. He earned a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Ferrara in 2008, with a research thesis on photography and urban system analysis, titled “Introducing Photography – PHOTO (+) DATA/backup – A feedback for the contemporary city”, curated by Vittorio Savi. In 2009 got an internship at Agence VU in Paris, after that he came back to Italy and moved to Rome where in 2010 he attended the School of Photojournalism at ISFCI. In 2018 earned an MFA in Photography at Ulster University of Belfast. Since 2010 he is involved in long-term projects that focus on the role History, Memory, and Culture play in contemporary societies, often explored through a narrative and literary perspective. His work has been published in Italian and foreign magazines such as La Repubblica, L’Espresso, Domus, Urbanautica, Territorio, Taz Berliner Zeitung, Brand Eins, Mitbestimmung, Monocle, among others; and exhibited in several institutions including Triennale di Milano and MACRO Museum of Contemporary Arts in Rome. United Nations (Vienna headquarters) accredited photojournalist.
